Working with abstract and semi-abstract form, my work is inspired by the natural environment, existing for the sole purpose of building greater awareness amidst global concerns.
Each piece, whether two- or three-dimensional, is pushed to a state of feeling
out-of-balance, meant to reach the boundaries of the works own physical space or materiality.
Sourced from living, the worlds inhabitants and habitat act as an established base from which to create and ask questions. Here, evident in the aesthetic, sit the pervading concerns of our time, in a state of fragile awareness—well aware of life's physical and emotional boundaries. Here, are the innocent creatures, a fragile nature, the unexacting hand of power.
Here, in the extraordinary alongside the grotesque, is the brave hand of the artist.
Each piece starts with the subtle bones of an idea plus the supplies each piece requires. Whether beeswax, resin and pigment or aluminum mesh, plaster gauze and paint—all elements are added and subtracted, scraped and wiped. There is a lot of quiet contemplation as each piece moves towards its natural end – that visual time stamp – where one's ongoing internal machinations can stop their progressive march. When the concept matched with the physical labor of art-making meets its final moment of completion.
